Editor Kathie Fry
SkateLog.com is edited and hosted by Kathie Fry,
editor of the Roller Skating Open Directory
at Dmoz.org and former editor of the inline skating Web site
at About.com (Kathie edited the About.com skating site
for four years, from 1999 through 2003, when she had
to resigned because SkateLog.com was growing fast
and requiring more and more of her time).
Kathie travels all over the world to attend skating events,
meet the local skaters, and learn about fun places to skate.
She writes mostly for her own Web sites, but many of her articles have
also appeared in hard copy magazines. For photos of Kathie and information
about how to contact her see

Web Site History
This Web site first appeared on the Internet in May of 1999, and at that time
it was known as SkateGRRL.com. The domain name was changed to
SkateLog.com in November of 2002. A forum was added to the site
in the summer of 2003. At that time, a decision was made to
give the forum its own domain name, so the forum associated with
SkateLog.com is located at AskAboutSkating.com.
What Happened to SkateGRRL?
The name of this Web site was changed from SkateGRRL.com to SkateLog.com
in 2002 because - as cool as the name "SkateGRRL" is -
it was not a perfect domain name. Some of the reasons
the name was changed: (a) many people thought SkateGRRL was
a girl skating or aggressive skating Web site, (b) GRRL
is suppose to mean "tough girl" but that meaning is not well-known
outside of the Internet, (c) people tended to avoid pronouncing
GRRL because they were not certain of the correct pronounciation,
(d) GRRL does not mean much to the non-English speaking community,
and (e) people could not remember the name SkateGRRL.com, and they often
ended up on other Web sites that are spelled differently that... well,
let's just say
they were Web sites we would not want our name to be associated with.
SkateGRRL will eventually be resurrected as either a girl skater
Web site or perhaps a central hub for all of Kathie Fry's Web sites.
