Girls Week at Camp Woodward West
July 3-9, 2005

Woodward West, the world famous action sports camp in Tehachapi, Southern California, invites girls age 7 to 17 to participate in a special week-long camp in the summer of 2005 known as "Girls Rule Week at Camp Woodward".

GIRLS RULE WEEK AT CAMP WOODWARD WEST

Girls Rule! at Woodward West will be a summer camp week dedicated to the up and coming women of action sports. Campers will have an opportunity to come together with professional female riders and skaters and promote their participation in action sports. Female professional athletes, girl-oriented action sports manufacturers, pros, and instructors will be on hand to make this week complete.

Some of the Girls Rule! visiting pros will include skateboarders Sasha La Rochelle and Lyn-Z Adams Hawkins, and inline skaters Katie Ketchum and Fabiola Da Silva. Several female BMX riders and racers have also shown interest. Activities and events also will include female instructors discussing the female experience in action sports and addressing their interests in action sports.

According to Lyn-Z Adams Hawkins, professional skateboarder who also surfs and snowboards, Woodward West has a welcoming atmosphere that makes everyone feel like family. Hawkins and La Rochelle are among the female professional athletes who participated in the Op Girls Learn to Ride event at Woodward West in 2003.

"Girls Rule! is a cool way of getting girls in action sports together and show them how fun skateboarding, or riding, is," she said. "This is an opportunity to show how supportive Woodward West is to the girls of action sports."

As women in action sports gain recognition, especially in BMX Racing, in which a girls division will be included in the 2008 Olympic Games, Woodward West is creating a space to promote the camaraderie amongst the women of action sports and give them an opportunity to train and ride together.

The girl-specific events we've hosted at Woodward West, such as the Op Girls Learn To Ride, have generated a lot of energy. Although girls are welcome all summer, they deserve an opportunity to come together and share the spirit with other girls who are interested in action sports, Woodward West Camp Director Debbie Williams said.

Professional Inliner Katie Ketchum said Girls Rule! is another great opportunity Woodward West has provided to get more females involved in action sports and it is the best place to try new sports without feeling uncomfortable.

Woodward Wests professional and outstanding facility is wonderful, especially for beginning skateboarders and those who want to work toward improving their skills, said Sasha La Rochelle, who also is an amateur snowboarder. Just being at Woodward West makes you feel amped and ready to rock! Being able to make use of Woodwards great skate/BMX parks and the pro-athletes who teach clinics make for a truly special occasion where girls can meet and skate/ride with pros and the one-on-one instruction cant be beat.

Woodward West has already received positive response from industry manufacturers to supply products to campers.

Girls Rule! week is open to all girls interested in action sports or active in the industry. Girls Rule! will be July 3 to 9, 2005. Fees are $895. Boys will be welcome that week of camp as well.
