Roller Skating in the Movies - Xanadu
Even Olivia Newton-John, Gene Kelly, and the Electric Light Orchestra could not make this film a critical success, but over the years it has become a roller disco cult classic. I enjoy watching it myself from time to time, especially when I have roller skating visitors [Read Movie Review]

Daylight Savings Time Starts and Ends Today
Daylight Savings Time (also called Summer Time) begins or ends in many parts of the the world today, October 31, 2004. In other parts of the world the change happens between September 5 and November 2. In California I will have to turn my clock back 1 hour, which means one hour less daylight for skating after work. I will try to start working 6 am to 3 pm so I can still skate in the late afternoon before it gets dark, but the most difficult part of that will be staying away from my home computer when I wake up in the morning. Once I sit at my home computer I will always be there 3 or 4 hours reading my email and finishing up articles. For information about time changes in your area see [The World Clock] and [Daylight Savings Time]

Anybody Tried Blake Dennis Wheels?
"Senate has named at least two of their aggressive inline skate wheels after Australian street skating champion Blake Dennis. Does anybody know the history of these two wheels? Are they available to the public? I'm wondering if the newest Blake Dennis wheel is available only on the 2004 Roces Graal Skate." [Read More In Our Forum]

My Northshore and Long Beach Photos
I am a bit behind in posting my Northshore Marathon and Long Beach Marathon photos because I have been traveling to skating events almost every weekend since the X Games in August. Two weeks ago it was a 4-day aggressive event at Camp Woodward and this last weekend my 14 year old nephew was visiting. I'm feeling rather stressed about not getting my photos up more quickly because I know everybody wants to see them. But the good news is I don't have any more events to attend until the Artistic Worlds at the end of November, so I will have plenty of time this weekend and the next 2 weekends to finish posting my Northshore and Long Beach photos. Here's where to check:

Is Loctite Really Necessary?

I'm Back Home from Camp Woodward
I'm home now after the Monsters of Roll event in the California desert this weekend and I'm still keyed up from all the excitement this weekend. The theme of the event was "seeds to leaves" and I had a chance to watch and photograph many of the most talented tiny inline newcomers, and older amateurs and pros as well. The event was organized by Chris Edwards and many other legends of the sport showed up to judge, give out prizes, and encourage the young skaters, including Arlo Eisenberg, Angie Walton, Franky Morales and many more. This was also the first opportunity I have had to watch vertical roller skating and all I can say is, if you ever have a chance to watch Brian Wainwright and other top aggressive quad skaters in action, don't miss it. Vertical roller skating is a completely different sport than aggressive inline. It appears to be more closely related to skateboarding (in stance and types of tricks) then to inline skating. A special greeting to all of the skaters and parents, and VIPs I met this weekend, who came from Brazil, Puerto Rico, the United Kingdom, and many different parts of North America to participate in this event.

Meet Me at the Artistic Worlds in November
The 2004 Artistic Roller Skating World Championships will take place November 16-28, 2004 in the city of Fresno, California in the United States. I will be flying to Fresno twice in November so I can be there for the last 2 weekends of the competition. Long Beach Marathon Photos and Reports
My Long Beach Marathon Special Report is not quite ready for publication, but I'm going to give you guys a peek at it anyway because I am traveling to an aggressive event at Camp Woodward West this weekend and I might not have a chance to finalize those pages before Monday. I don't want to keep you waiting forever, because all of my award ceremony photos *are* on the Web. Spammers in My Forum Are a Pain
In case you wonder why I have not been posting news on this page in the last couple of days, it's because I have been overwhelmed with the task of keeping spammers and advertisers out of my forum. Now that our forum at AskAboutSkating.com is getting very high page views, everybody in the world wants to use it to promote their products and services. We are seeing many more people joining our forum for the sole purpose of having a link to their Web site from ours, and people posting multiple times in our forum to promote their own products and services. If this problem continues to grow we will shut down the forum completely, because keeping spammers out is starting to require a huge amount of time.... time I would much prefer to spend writing articles and posting photos from recent events.

How to Make Speed Skating Popular with Kids
"If you want to make inlining speed skating popular and appealing to kids, just tell them that they are absolutely forbidden to do it. Discourage them. Tell them it's too dangerous. Who I Had Dinner With Last Night
Last night I had the pleasure of dining with husband and wife 24-hour world record holders Jonathan Seutter and his wife Kim Ames, who arrived in California this week from Taiwan where they currently live. It was great fun to get caught up on all of their stories, and we shared a bottle of champagne to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Kim breaking her then-coach Jonathan's 24 hour world record. Kim is a tough and determined endurance skater who is planning to skate the 40k Long Beach Marathon in Southern California on October 10, the 50k Northern California Road Skate Championships on October 17, and the Athens to Atlanta 87 mile road skate on October 24. Sometime between those events she will skate to the top of 10,804 foot Mt. San Jacinto in Palm Springs, California, a route most people prefer to view from the world-famous Palm Springs Aerial Tramway. I took nine pictures of Kim and Jonathan last night and she has her eyes closed - but is still looking very cute - in all of them! LOL... I will try to do better this afternoon when I see them at the Long Beach Marathon Vendor Expo.

My Hunt for Skating E-Cards
People often ask me where they can find inline skating or quad roller skating e-cards and electronic postcards. I have come across them here and there on the Web, but I have never seen a large collection all in once place. This week 123Greetings.com told me about a new e-Cards page they put up for RSI's National Roller Skating Month, which happens to be in October. I have occasionally thought about creating my own e-cards using some of my thousands of skating photos, but in the meantime that message from 123Greetings inspired me to create a Skating E-Cards Directory at SkateLog.com which links to the 123Greetings e-cards and quite a few other skating e-cards I found on the Web.
