Why I Resigned from About.com
|
by Kathie Fry
It's not just a rumor, it's true.
I resigned from my job as editor of the About.com inline skating Web
site effective Thursday July 31, 2003.
I will miss my friends at About.com, but the time is right to
make that change, so I am feeling good about my time
at About.com and good about turning that site over to
a new "Inline Skating Guide". Here is my last note to
my fellow editors at About.com:
Subject:
Goodbye to My Wonderful Friends at About
From: Kathie Fry, Inline Skating Guide
Date: July 17, 2003
Sometimes, even when you're sure it's time to make a significant change in your life, it is still not so easy to actually make that change.
After much consideration, and going back and forth several times, I have come to the difficult decision that it's time for me to leave About.com and let someone new take over the reins of the About Inline Skating Web site
I'm finally facing the fact that between my About.com Web site,
my personal Web sites, my full time University job, and way too
many volunteer gigs, I have committed more than 24 hours a day
to all of my different projects.
I've thought about how it will feel to see a new guide's photo on my skating site, and I am really OK with that, because it feels like it is time to make the change. I will always be ready to help the new guide in any way that might be useful, and support that person any way I can.
I'm comfortable with the idea of turning my About site over to a new guide, but the thing I am not comfortable with, is leaving the guide community, and leaving my friends on the staff of About. I was really looking forward to the next guide event and I'm already feeling sad and very "left out" for being excluded from that event.
If you want to keep in touch with me (and I hope many guides and staff *will* want to) you can send email to kathiefry@skatelog.com.
I wish all of you the best of luck, and a very special thank you to About.com for everything they have done for me, and taught me, since my inline skating site went live in September of 1999.
Goodbye my friends, and please stay in touch. I am missing you already.
