Where to Skate in Minsk
by Dzmitry Vadalazhski

An article about skating in the city of Minsk was written by Belarus skater Dzmitry Vadalazhski.

You will see occasional skaters all over Minsk, but there exist some places where you will meet local skaters regularly.

Svisloch River Trail
You will find speed skaters, roller skiers and recreational skaters every evening on Ski Roller Trail Loop in the Vesnyanka area. It is situated in a beautiful place on the Svisloch River bank. Especially wonderful scenery you will see there at sunset time. Trail is 5 kilometers long and about 3 meters wide, with many turns and hills. All hills are small but two of them have sufficiently steep slopes. There is perfect asphalt there. In the evening the trail is lighted up.

Chizhovka Trail
A similar Ski Roller Trail Loop was built in the Chizhovka area not long ago. Now there's no other information about it besides that it is shorter than the loop in Vesnyanka.

Sport Palace on Masherova Avenue
Another popular spot among local skaters is asphalt ground near Sport Palace in Masherova Avenue. There you will meet recreational skaters, cone skaters and beginners. Besides skaters you will meet there BMX bikers, skateboarders, footbag players, sometimes B-Boys. This place is some kind of Minsk street culture center. From there you can reach Ski Roller Trail Loop in Vesnyanka area skating along Masherova Avenue by sidewalk which has good surface along most of the way. The distance to Ski Roller Trail Loop is about 3.5 kilometers.

Olympic Sport Complex Raubichi
15 kilometers north of Minsk there is Olympic Sport Complex Raubichi. There are tennis-courts, basket-ball and volley-ball pitches, football fields, ski jumps, other sport objects and most interesting for skaters - the hilly Raubichi Biathlon Loop Trail that runs through a pine forest. It is about 5 kilometers long and about 4 meters wide, with many interesting turns, hard uphill sections and fast downhill sections. Every weekend in Raubichi you will meet skaters from Minsk who skate the biathlon trail or the skate-rink. After skating you can swim in the lake placed nearby. You can get to Raubichi by bus, by car or on your skates by bike trail which begins at the road police post at the outskirts of Minsk. Additional interesting sight in Raubichi is Folk Arts and Crafts Museum. The museum has a rich exposition of folk costumes from all regions of Belarus, fine fabrics, traditional weaving, pottery, articles made of straw, carved wood, earthenware.
