2003 Indian Speed Skating Championships

The National Speed Skating Championships of India were held in Kolkata (formerly known as Calcutta), the capital of the Indian State of West Bengal. The events were conducted on a newly built 125 meter flat track in the Salt Lake City area of Kolkata. The primary sponsor of the event was Jonex and Company, India's largest skate manufacturing company.

Skaters from the State of Maharashtra bagged the over speed championships followed by the skaters from the state of Andhara Pradesh.

Track Event
Subodh of Andhra Pradesh proved to be fastest on track, followed by Pushkar of Maharashtra.

Road Event
In road events it was Aabas who raced his team Mate Ravi from Andhara.

Women's Events
In girls section it was Varsha, Vihangi, Kushboo and Heer who had a keen tussle to prove themselves

Summary
Mr. Pradeep Ganeriwal, president of the Indian Roller Skating Federation is confident the Indian skaters will receive medals at the Asian Championshiops in September, and he is also sure the Indians ranking will improve drastically at the forthcoming World Championships in November.

Camp After the Nationals
After the national championships, the third annual camp to prepare the Indian skaters for the Asian and World Champiionships was held in the City of Vaizak, and Mr Rambabu, the secretary of Indian Skating Federation, was present,

The camp took off smoothly, with skaters showing good performances in both the track and road championships. Pushkar, Poojan, Yashwant were the fastest men in the track events, and Ravi and Aakash were fastest in the road events. In the women's events Varsha was fastest in the road events and Heer in the track events. Final selection of the Indian team who will attend the 2003 Asian and World Championships will be made in July
