More About Subodh Patil
In the recently held National Championships in India,
speed was the synonym for Subodh Patil, who captured the hearts of
all by winning two gold medals in 1000 mts and 10000mts point
to point race where he had a very tough fight and was declared
the winner by difference of just 2 points.
Subodh Balwant Patil
is a Roller Skater from Kolhapur, India.
His skating career started in 1990, when he was 6 years old.
His father got him skates, so that he would not waste his time
in street games. Then he took training at Kolhapur.
He got his first national medal at Noida; he got several medals
in and out of Kolhapur. His father got him to Pune city in 1995,
where he started taking training with Pushkar Kulkarni of Team
Extreme.
Since than he has won several championships. He got a bronze

and his idol Chad, who has 50 gold medals to his credit at world
Championships, and Renaldo, who was junior group gold medallist at
world championships.
He secured 9th Position at Open International Championship in Ostend
2002. It was really tough to reach this position says Subodh. For this
he gives all the credit to
Mr. Cristofer Adori formerly of Team Saloman who coached the Indian
team then.
He has to practice for 4 hours daily in morning and evening. He gets
full support from his family; he especially gives credit for his success
to his mother. He also mentions his brother Vijay, who is all the time
there to help him.
Being a very fast growing game he has to keep abreast with the
latest techniques in the sport, for this he likes surfing the
net and watching various video cassettes.
He also has discussions with his friends Aabas and all to improve his sport.
He is a self-determined skater who believes in himself and his well-wishers.
He is now settled in Hyderabad in Andhra- Pradesh State where is supported by
the state government in all the ways, Subodh says. He is not just skating but
also is studying in 12th Arts, faculty.
He has set a goal for himself of becoming a professional skater and play
for professional teams in Europe and US. He is currently the team leader
of Team Verducci India.
Injuries are integral part of any sport, but this has never let him down.
At Ostend World Championships, he competed in 42 K marathon with a fractured
hand and secured 70th position leaving behind many champion skaters.
He likes to chill out with his college friends, when he is not skating.
Determination, Hard work and positive attitude are all the ingredients for
being a champion skater, for Subodh.
Sky is the limit, is what comes to one’s mind as one watches the graph of
young Subodh, the super Skater of India.
