April 2004 Skating News from Kenya

In April of 2004 I received a lovely note from the coach of the Kenya National Inline Speed Skating Team with news and information about speed skating in Kenya and the Kenya Roller Skating Confederation (KRSC). New Officers at the Kenya Federation The following new Kenya Roller Skating Confederation officials took office on March 23, 2004: CHAIRPERSON: Cleo Mbeo VICE CHAIRPERSON: Philip Kiura TREASURER: Celestine Wamiru SECRETARY: Benjamin Luta TEAM DOCTOR: Carol Gitonga TEAM MANAGER: Catherine Chania COACH: Joseph Mwangi Kenyan Skaters at South African Championships The Kenya Roller Skating Federation was able to send one skater to the 6th Annual South Africa International Inline Speed Skating Championships. Congratulations to Joseph Mwangi who won a bronze medal in the 300 meter track event. Team Kenya is Training for 2004 Worlds The Kenya National Inline Speed Skating Team is very busy training for the September 2004 World Championships in Italy. They consider their participation in the 2004 Championships to be crucial to the development of the sport of inline speed skating in Kenya because it will give the Kenyan Team experience and motivation. The team having time trial marathons at the end of every month and sprint training five days a week, come rain or shine.
