News About Inline Skating in Kenya
May 2005
The sport of inline skating is growing in Kenya, with
new clubs appearing in Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu City, and Nyeri Town.
Here is a May 2005 update on the status of inline speed skating
in Kenya, by Joseph Mwangi Muchiri, coach of
the Kenyan National Inline Speed Skating Team.
All of the local speed skating clubs in Kenya are training very hard
to compete in the 2005 Kenya National Speed Skating Day
which will take place on July 24,2005. On that day the Kenya
junior and senior national teams will be selected.
According to Joseph Mwangi, coach of the Kenya National Inline Speed Skating Team,
there are four skating clubs registered with the Kenya Roller Sports
Federation:
Hope Skating Club
The Hope Skating Club of Nairobi was founded by Mr. Joseph Mwangi,
who is the current chairperson, and Miss Linda Mwihaki, also known as Pinkie.
The club trains on the sports grounds of the University of Nairobi
Monday through Friday from 4 pm through 7:30 pm. The club has 54 members
as of May 2005 and the majority of them are university students.
Their training area is a 5 minute walk from the city center of
Nairobi. The club can be reached at

Satellite Skating Club
The Satellite Skating Club of Nairobi is headed by "Edmond"
and they train in the Satellite area, which is a suburb of
Nairobi City. This club has some very promising skaters.
Nyeri Speedskaters Club
The Nyeri Speedskaters Club of Nyeri Town is one of the new up-and-coming
clubs outside of the city of Nairobi. The clubs is in its infancy stage
inder the leadership of George Mungai, and they train within
Nyeri town.
Pumwani Inline Skating Club
The Pumwani Inline Skating Club is another new club, and they
are based in the Pomwani area of Nairobi City.
The club manager is "Victor" and it is said that the future
of skating in Nairobi is in the hands of this club because
the majority of its members are under 10 years of age.

Kenya including:
