Sacramento, Northern California, USA
|
The ban against inline skating on the American River Parkway
in Sacramento, California was lifted
on January 1, 2000.
The American River Parkway is a 23 mile linear park that runs along
the American River in Sacramento, California.
The west end is located in Sacramento's Discovery Park where the Sacramento
River and the American River come together. The east end
is at Hazel Avenue and the Natomas Fish Hatchery

Trail is Really the Jedediah Smith Memorial Trail
The paved bicycle trail in side the American River Parkway
is actually called the Jedediah Smith Memorial Trail
and the park around the trail is called the American River Parkway.
The park also has a separate equestrian trail.
Skating Ban Was Lifted on January 2000
Inline skaters have been welcome on this trails since a
skating ban was formally lifted on January 1, 2000.
The trail was opened to inline skaters on
a trial basis, from January 1, 2000 to December 31, 2000. At
the end of that time, the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors
and the Sacramento City Council were suppose to decide if the skating ban
would be lifted permanently (I assume that it was. Does anybody
know anything different?)
California State Bill SB-923
(Inline Skating on the American River Parkway) was
first introduced on February 25, 1999 by
State Senator Patrick Johnston.
It was supported by the
Sacramento County Board of Supervisors,
the Sacramento City Council, and the
National Skate Patrol.
The bill was approved by the Governor of California
on July 13, 1999.
