Mark your calendars for August 11. 12 and 13 as all wheels will be heading
to Venice Beach for a skating extravaganza that you will not want to miss.
Venice Beach is right now under construction. The skating area along with
the Pavilion and surrounding streets and walkways are going through a
complete makeover. Everything is being torn down and rebuilt. Part of this
rebuild includes the building of a new skate area at the beach.
A new skate area at the beach is something that calls for a big celebration.
The call is going out to all skaters to make plans to come down and attend a
fantastic weekend of skating in the Venice/Santa Monica area. On Friday,
Aug.11, there will be the Santa Monica Friday Night Skate. Skaters will
gather at the Santa Monica Pier at 7:00 P.M. and prepare for a skate tour of
the area just like we do every Friday here in San Francisco and other cities
around the world.
On Saturday, the celebration begins. Skaters, City officials and others
will come to the beach to celebrate the new Venice Beach. One of the
highlights will be the performances by the skaters. The family and I are
going down and will perform as "Generation Gap". Any skaters who are
interested in performing should e-mail me at d@cora.org or
Cablader@ix.netcom.com
We are going to have a great time. Skaters everywhere are invited to come.
Please make plans for this road trip. You will be a part of skate history.
Keep Rollin',

As I have it right now, the event is still on. I understand the area is currently
not ready to skate, but the City says it will be ready by the 11th.
We are staying at the Jolly Roger Motel on Washington Blvd. You can call them at
310-822-2904. Some skaters are staying at the Cadilac Hotel on Venice Beach. I
don't know the number. Also you can call the Venice Skate Hotline at 310-57-SKATE
Here's the lowdown on the weekend's performances.
