Skating the Silver Comet Trail

in Georgia.
I was in Atlanta, Georgia in October of 2000, and while I was there,
I skated the Silver Comet Trail with A2A Webmaster Scott Jones.
The trail was still under construction at the time,
but it had smooth pavement for the first 12 miles, from the
Mavell Road trailhead to Highway 278. here are the photos Scott and
I took that day:

About the Silver Comet Trail
The Silver Comet trail is fairly flat, with no large hills, and it runs
through meadows, forests and farmlands. Much of the trail is
shaded by trees, and there are several interesting tunnels
and bridges to cross. The trail is open from dawn to dusk,
365 days a year, and most of the trailheads have restrooms
and drinking fountains. You can park at one of these trailheads:

Concord Road (Covered Bridge Access)

Florence Road (off Highway 278)
-
Mavell Road (off South Cobb Drive)
The trail is being built over the abandoned Silver Comet Railroad
Line. When work on the trail is completed, it will run for 57
miles through Cobb, Paulding, and Polk Counties in Georgia.
It will connect at the Alabama border with the Chief Ladiga
Trail, which runs for 22 miles between the Alabama towns of
Piedmont and Anniston. When all of the work on the Silver Comet
Trail and the Chief Ladiga Trail is finished, they will have a
total combined length of more than 100 miles.
About the Silver Comet Trail
Length: 38 miles
Location: Smyrna to Esom
Surface: Concrete
Future Plans: Eventually the Silver Comet Trail will
begin at the intersection of Mount Paran Road and
Northside Parkway in Georgia and run all all the
way to the Alabama border, where it will connect
to the Chief Ladiga Trail. When both of those trails
are finished, they will provide a 101 mile of recreational
trail from Atlanta, Georgia to Anniston Alabama.
