Trail of the Coeur d'Alenes
State of Idaho, United States

By Kathie Fry

Trail of the Coeur d'Alenes
Wetlands Between Dudley Road and the Trail

The Trail of the Coeur d'Alenes is a paved multi-use recreational trail in Northern Idaho that spans more than 70 miles from the Idaho panhandle horizontally from the west side of Lake Coeur d'Alene to the Coeur d'Alene Reservation near the Washington State border.

Trail Length: 73 miles long
Width: 10 feet wide
Surface: Paved with Asphalt
Route: Point to Point
County: Benewah, Kootenai, Soshone
Towns: Plummer, Harrison, Wallace, Mullan

The trail follows the Union Pacific Railroad's right-of-way from Mullan, a mountain mining town near the Montana border, to Plummer, a town on the prairie near the Washington border. More than 71 miles of paved path takes you from high mountain splendor, through the historic Silver Valley, into the chain lakes region, along the shore of Lake Coeur d'Alene, over a bridge to Heyburn State Park (summer 2003) and on to the prairie beyond.

From the State of Idaho
From Leo Hennessy, Non-Motorized Trails Coordinator for the State of Idaho Parks and Recreation Department: "Idaho State Parks and Recreation just finished paving the longest continually paved 10 foot wide trail in the US and maybe the world. It is 73 miles long. 65 miles was paved last fall the reminder will be paved this month. Attached please find a brochure. At present there are only a few persons that know about it. The scenery and wildlife is world class. I thought it would be an in-line skaters heaven to have 73 miles smooth uncrowded paved trail.
