Jessica Lishinski Skated Off a Cliff
Died May 1999 in Duluth Michigan
(Born: April 15, 1978 - Died: May 21, 1999)

On the evening of May of 1999, 21 year old Jessica Lishinski was skating along the shores of Lake Superior with her best friend. Jessica was an experienced skater but something went very wrong that evening. She missed a sharp curve on the windy Duluth Lakewalk Path, skated off the edge of a cliff, and fell 30 feet onto the sharp rocks below. She died immediately of a traumatic brain injury, but was kept alive until May 21 using life-support equipment, because of her well-known desire to become an organ doner when she died.

At the time of her death, Jessica was a journalism student at St. Clouds University, and she was working between semesters as an intern in Duluth. While she was at the Universty she also took courses in aviation and kayaking. After Jessica's death, her parents worked with government officials to make the Duluth Lakewalk Path a safer place for skaters, cyclists, and pedestrians.
