Road Rash Kills 7 Year Old Skater
Young Jessie Geyer Died After a Skating Fall
|
Seven year old Jessie Geyer of Northern California died on October 31, 2003,
because a patch of road rash on her leg, the result of an inline skating
fall, gave her a streptococcal infection that spread throughout her body.
Jessie became ill about 10 days after
the fall, with a body temperature of about 103 and pain so severe pain in her
right leg she could barely straighten it or walk. The interesting thing is
that the knee scrape was on her on the other leg. Hospital staff failed
to test Jessie for a streptococcal infection,
and therefore she was not treated with the antibiotics that are normally used
in cases like this.
Jessie was rushed to the hospital about 2 days before she
died, and at that time she was treated with antibiotics,
but it was too late to save her.
