Speed Worlds in China Cancelled
Delayed until November 2003
|
|
Four skating federations, in different parts of the world,
have submitted formal bids to replace China as the host
of the 2003 World Inline Speed Skating Championships.
|
On May 29, 2003 the Central Committee of the International Roller
Sports Federation (FIRS) decided to cancel the 2003 World
Inline Speed Skating Championships, originally scheduled to take place in
August in Souzhou, China. The Committee made that decision because
China has been hit very hard by the recent epidemic of Severe
Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS).
The Central Committee also decided to delay the 2003 Speed Worlds until
November, and select a new location for the event.
During the next two weeks, the FIRS
International Speed Committee (CIC) will review bids from four
national federations who have offered to host the event:
The International Speed Committee will meet with the Central Committee on June 13,
and on that date a decision will be made about where
the 2003 Speed Worlds will be held.
