A NOTE FROM KATHIE
WHY I RESIGNED FROM ABOUT.COM
Most of you have heard by now that I resigned
as editor of the About.com inline skating Web
site, effective July 31, 2003. There was no
big blowup or anything between me and About.com,
and in fact I will still be working for them
on several different projects. I only resigned
from that job because my SkateLog.com site has
taken off in such a big way, it is no longer
possible for me to edit both the About.com skating
site and my own SkateLog.com site.
WHY IT IS GOOD NEWS, NOT BAD NEWS
This is really good news, not bad news, because
I'm sure About.com will hire someone wonderful
to replace me, and now I will have time to finish
up all of those articles that have been in my
queue forever. I will also be able to answer
of my email much more quickly, now that I have
effectively reduced its volume by 50%.
YOU CAN BE THE NEW ABOUT.COM GUIDE
You can apply to be the new Inline Skating
Guide at About.com by connecting to these
pages and following the instructions:

If you get the job I will be your biggest fan!
MY NEW MESSAGE BOARD
I have a new message board of my very own now, and
because it is so new, I would REALLY APPRECIATE
your help getting it off to a good start by
replying to questions and starting interesting
discussion threads of your own. You can connect
to my new forum here:
http://www.askaboutskating.com/forum/
... and you can sign up for your own user name by
selecting "Register" from the blue menu at the top
of the page. If you have any trouble registering
in the forum please send email to me at
kathiefry@skatelog.com and I will create a user
name for you.
MY NEW CHAT ROOM
Sunday night chats are back! I will be in the
chat room every Sunday night from 7 to 8 pm Pacific
(California) time. My new chat room is located here:
http://www.askaboutskating.com/chat/phpMyChat.php3
(It's open 24 hours with scheduled chats every Sunday)
MEET ME AT THE X GAMES (LOS ANGELES)
This week I will be spending nearly all of my time
at the Los Angeles X Games, watching the action,
interviewing and photographing the top pro skaters,
and trying not to drool over them too much (that
part will not be easy...). Most of the X Games
events will happen at Staples Center in downtown
Los Angeles and admission is $5 per day per venue.
For more information see:

MEET ME AT THE SPEED WORLDS (VENEZUELA)
In November I will travel to Venezuela for
the 2003 Inline Speed Skating World Championships
and I am in the process of trying to connect with
the local skaters so I can hang out with them
on skates between reporting on the official event
(as you know, I always try to mix my business with
plenty of fun). For more information about this
year's speed worlds, see the official web site at
http://www.patincarrera.com/mundial2003/index.html
(select Spanish or English at the top of the page)
And a few last words...
I loved my 4 years as inline skating editor for
About.com but now I am very excited about being
able to devote 100% of my time to my own skating
Web site for the very first time
Watch out skaters, you haven't seen anything yet!!
