Energy gels are often used by long distance athletes
because they provide a fast acting, easily digestible
source of carbohydrates that is light weight and can
be consumed during an exercise session or athletic
competition.
Athletes typically consume one or two energy gel packets
per hour during training
sessions and events that extend beyond 1 hour.
It is believed that energy gels enhance performance
by raising blood sugar levels and delaying
the onset of muscular fatigue.
Before you use an energy gel for the first
time during a long-distance event or exercise session,
try it out at home to make sure it will not
upset your stomach.
