My Letter to Bont and FaSST
Topic: Controversial Fall 2002 Bont Ad
|
This is a copy of the letter I sent to to Bont Skates of
and Fitness and Speed Skating Times Magazine about
the controversial Bont "Naked Skater" ad that appeared on the
inside cover of the Fall 2002 issue of FaSST Magazine.
Dear Bont and FaSST Magazine:
I love the Bont ad in the Fall 2002 issue of FaSST Magazine.
I don't understand why anyone would think it's not suitable
for a family publication. There is certainly nothing sexual about
the photo. It's just the bare rear side of a skater who is standing
on a hill, waving his skates in the air. I was surprised and rather
amused when I saw the ad, but not at all offended. What I mostly
thought was "That guy looks like he really loves his skates" and
"That Bont is always full of surprises!".
Bont is a warm and friendly family-owned company that spends
a great deal of time and money supporting skating all over the
world. They have always had a delightful and clever sense
of humor which is often evident in their magazine ads. Their
ads never fail to be striking and entertaining, because they
reflect the unique spirit of fun and adventure that Bont Skates
is known for all over the world. Please never stop surprising
us Bont!
Sincerely,
Kathie Fry, Host and Editor
