Britney Spears Sues Skechers
MARCH 13, 2003: Skechers Footwear has responded to Britney Spears' $1.5 million lawsuit
against them, by filing a multi-million dollar lawsuit
of their own against the pop singer.
The dispute is over a deal Spears signed with Skechers, to design
and endorse a line of custom Britney quad roller skates.
Skechers claims that Spears did not approve any of the skate skate models,
clothing designs, and skating accessories that were
presented to her in time for them to be in the
stores during the targeted seasons, and that
this caused Skechers to lose tens of millions of dollars.
Skechers also claims that Spears fraudulently induced them to
sponsor her 2001-2002 concert tour in exchange for the merchandising
license.
The Britney Spears lawsuit claims Skechers used her image to
promote and sell its own line of roller skates instead of
skates designed by her, and that they reneged on a written
agreement to sponsor her concert tour. For more information

Skechers says they notified Britney Spears in November of 2002 of their
plan to file a lawsuit against her for breach of contract, and that her
December lawsuit was an attempt to beat them to the punch.
