Streetflyers Roller Shoes
|
These skates with tiny hard plastic wheels that
pop in and out are more of a novelty item or a toy
than a real skate, but kids love them.
They are sometimes called sneaker skates or roller shoes
and Streetflyers is the most well-known brand.
They are not suitable for skating any kind of distance,
although I have seen people wearing them on our local
bike paths. I own a pair, and I enjoy
skating in them occasionally just to
show off. When you're wearing them
you look like you are floating along in your athletic
shoes, because the wheels are so tiny, no one can see them.
Most people find them difficult to skate in at first because
the wheels are tiny and made of hard plastic, and because
the wheel base is extremely short, making it easy to fall
forward or backward until you get the hang of it. But with
practice it IS possible to skate in Streetflyers. Sort of.
