Segway Jokes and Humorous Articles

Humorous articles and Jokes about the Segway scooter.

In July of 2004 my sisters was visiting. etc etc.etc Here is my interviwe with beverly after our ay together on Segways in Venice beach California ____________________________________ Kathie Fry Thank you Beverly for agreeing to tell us about your first day on a Segway scooter (or the first time you tried one).

Beverly Powell
I'm happy to share my experience.

Kathie What was it like to step onto Segway scooter for the first time?

Beverly It wasn't my first time on a segway. my first time was was in december of 2003 when I was at the sj tech museum when they were thaving a segway demo at the museum for the public. They had a little small course with cones set up where they first demonstrated and then gave each participant a small mini lesson on how to get on and start and back up and turn. Then they let each person try out a segway for 2 or 3 minutes. That first time stepping on it was extremely nerve wracking because I didn't know what to expect. or how the machine would respond to me standing up on it... I didn't know how it would react.

Kathie What was that first experience like?

Beverly I was surprised at how I was actually able to make the thing go forward and turn corners and actually proceed around the course without crashing into anything after only a few minutes of training.

Kathie Did you feel stable when you stepped onto the Segway:

Beverly I didn't fall over when I steped onto the Segway but the trainers kept telling me to relax my body and not try to balance, if Idid it would be work against the built-in balancing properties of the device. you don'tneed to try an balance. it works better if you totally ralax.

Kathie Since you had already tried a segway, were you very comfortable trying out the segway in southern california.

Beverly I was confident about the stepping on part, but since I had had so little training I still did have confidenc ein the operation of it and my biggest fear was would I be able to learn how to stop it (iin that little track I wasn't as concerned becausewe were going soslow iin a confined track, but I knew today we would be taking our Segways on publics treets). "closed track"

Kathie What were the first things they taught you?

Beverly
  • How to turn on the power
  • how to put it in balanced mode
  • how to step onto the segway
  • how to step off of the segway
  • how to take it out of balanced mode
  • how to operate the kickstand

Kathie Fry What did they teach you next?

    Beverly
  • how to move forward and backwards
  • how to stop
  • how to turn

Kathie Fry After they explained those things were you ready to hit the streets?

Beverly No way! I was really glad that they said they would let us practice indoors and work with us one-on-one until we were completely comfortable and reay to go out on our own. We ahve plenty of individual training. we practiced in thier stuido for quitea while before we went. there was not pressure to get outside (and on the clock) before we were ready)

Kathie Fry Can you tell us more about the some of the things you learned in your first Segway training session?

Beverly The first things they taught us were the basics like turning the Segway on and off, stepping on and off of the platform, and using the kickstan. But what I really wanted to do was move on to learning how to stop, because not being able to stop was one of my biggest fears. Little did I realize how important those first basic lessons would be later on in the day.

Kathie Fry Is it Hard to Stop on a Segway? Beverly Stopping on a Segway is not hard at all once you have learned the technique. On a Segway you mnove forwardand back by leaning you rbody forward or backwards in the direction you want to travel (move). The technique for stopping involves throwing your weight in the opposite direction of which you are traveling.

Kathie Fry Was Stopping Easy to Learn?

Beverly Stopping was not that easy for me to learn. In order to assume the correct position to stop while going forward my instructor told me to visualize my body sitting down in a chair and he demonstrated the movement for me. I tried this movement several times but I was not very successful in mastering that stopping method. I couldn't stop completely and my attempts to use that stopping method felt ackward to me. So my instructor, noticiing my difficulty, suggestioned another stopping method

Kathie Fry What is what the second stopping mothod

Beverly With thismethod the instructor said th visualize your body falling straight back onto a bed. After a few practice rounds with this stopping technique I was relieved because I finally found a stopping method that I could do and I felt comfortable I was starting to feel like I would not be able to laern how to stop.

Kathie After you learned how to stop, what did they teach you next

Beverly The next thing I learned was show to turn. The way you turn a Segway is to twist the ? on the left handlebar to the left or right. In the showroom going a slow speed in a protected area the turns seemed very easy to do and and I felt very confident about my turning skills.

Kathie So all you have do to move forward and backwards on a Segway is ljust lean forward back? There's no accelerator or anything?

Beverly Yes, you just lean forward and back and the accellerator is your body weight. The farther you lean forward the faster yo uwill move forward and the farther you lean back the faster yo umove back.

Kathie It seems like you learned a lot in that first tng session... NWO are you ready to hit the strets?

Beverly I thought I was totally ready to go until the instrucor told me to demonsrate one more time how to stop, step off, and put up the kick stand. All of a sudeent my mind wen tblank. At this point I sure wished I had paid more attention during those first introductory lessons where they taught us how to power the machine up and down. I couldn't rememebr the correct seq1uence for getting out of balance mode, stepping off the platform, and putting up the kickstand. This was really ciritcal to have donw because if you didn't do all of this n correct order you could lose control of the Segway. And so I practi e this technique over and over until I cetain I had it down.

Now we were ready to hit the streets Next Page: The Real World
