Kathie Fry's First Day in Speed Skates
Photo 7 of 9

After Bont Skates representative Glenn Koshi adjusted the frames on my new Black Widow speed boots they felt like a different pair of skates. Instantly everything started working properly when I tried to skate. This is soooooo much better!

Lack of ankle support was not as much of a problem as I expected, or at least not in the way I expected. It was very possible, and not that difficult, to skate on the top of my skate wheels.

But if I was not careful I sometimes skated too much on my outside edges and then my ankles would collapse outward toward the sides (it's a little hard to explain what I mean...). But as long as I kept thinking about not leaning my foot out too far when trying to catch my outside edges, it was not such an impossible problem. The main thing I needed to re-learn after I got speed skates was how to skate on my outside edges without having my foot collapse outward.
