Artistic Inline Skate Frames: PIC vs. Traix
by Michelle Foster
|
Michelle Foster shares her opinions how
about how the PIC artistic inline skate frame
compares to the Triax frame.
I am a quad roller skater, and my daughter Chelsee is an ice
skater. She used to be a quad skater too, but the technique
was too different for her to continue with both. The PIC skate
has allowed her to continue roller skating without losing the
ice technique.
The Triax frame is manufactured by a rollerskating
company - Snyder. The PIC was designed by an ice skating
coach. My daughter, has skated on both frames and so have I.
The Triax is like skating on a hockey skate with a toe stop.
Edges are very difficult and so are spins. The frame is not
rockered like the PIC so you are skating on all three wheels
at the same time. Triax might have changed the frame since
I tried them. I do know that at the U.S. North Central
Regionals in 2000, there were two skaters who competed on
the Triax frame. Their main complaint was the rocker issue.
In fact they had planned on putting a larger wheel in the
center to get the rocker effect after seeing Chelsee skate
and looking over her PIC Frame. They also had tremendous
difficulty with spinning. The toe stop on the Triax is
placed much higher - like a quad skate - where as the PIC
is closer to where an ice pick on a blade would be - lower
and easier to use for balance while spinning. I believe
the Triax is priced much higher than the PIC frame.
