The Crosskate is an off-road skate with 9 inch air-filled tires,
cable-activated disc brakes, and front wheels that pivot. The Crosskate
was invented in 1999 by MIT Student James "Jamie" Page.
The Crosskate has
9 inch air-filled tires, cable-activated disc
brakes that are engaged when you lean back onto
the cuff, and the front wheels pivot to the
left and right allowing a skater to
turn by leaning.
Crosskates only roll in one direction
(forward of we hope!)
which makes it easier to skate up steep hills.
The developer of Crosskates was James Page,
who says his developers found him when they
saw that Crosskates finished high in a 1999
Entrepreneurship contest organized by MIT,
a contest in which the developers won $10,000
which was used to pay the start-up companies
legal expenses.
