Number of Inline Skaters in the United States
According to the Sporting Goods Manufacturer's Association
the number people in the United States who
inline skated at least once in a year dropped more then
50% during the 7 years between 1998 and 2004. here are the SGMA number of
participating skaters for the last 5 years:
1998 = 32 million skaters
1999 - 28 million skaters
2000 - 29 million skaters
2001 - 26 million skaters
2002 - 22 million skaters
2003 - 19 million skaters
2004 - 17 million skaters

Statistics from Sports Tracking Europe
According to "Sports Tracking Europe"
inline skating and snowboarding,
which took Germany by storm in 1996, have lost
their appeal in that country. Sales of inline
skates reached an all-time high of nearly
four million pairs in 1996, however, the
combined sales of the skates in 1997 and
1998 totalled only 3.5 million pairs.
