Recap of the 2003 Latin X Games in Brazil

Summary of the action and results at the 2003 Latin American X Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Inline Competition in 2003
Last year’s Inline Park event left a sweet taste in the mouths of Brazilian Inline fans as Carlos Pianowski and Caio Batista skated away with gold and silver, respectively. Both skaters brought the packed stands to their feet with energetic, flawless performances. USA’s Carl Hills was happy as the only American skater in the finals to take home the bronze less than a point behind Batista. In the Inline Vert finals three countries were represented in the finals but in the end was dominated by Brazilians. The podium was no different. Marco de Santi pulled off his first-ever double backflip in a competition landing him the gold. Vinicius Rosa completed a 1080 (3 rotations) to a 900 ( 2 _ rotations) while Cesar Andrade stuck a forward 900. Rosa and Andrade joined their Brazilian champion on the podium with silver and bronze, respectively.

Skateboard Competition in 2003
At Latin America X Games II the skateboard final on the park course ended with judges relying on the scores from preliminary competition due to the rain. Brazil's Rodil de Araujo and Carlos de Andrade finished one and two. Completing the clean sweep for Brazil bronze medalist, Henrique Candido, rounded out the top three finishers from the Skateboard Park contest. The Skateboard Vert competition was once again a full house as spectators lined the shore of Leme Beach for an opportunity to watch the competition. Sao Paulo native, Sandro Dias stole the show with three flawless runs which all incorporated a number of difficult tricks. Neil Hendrix placed second in the vert competition. "This was my first time competing in Brazil. There is a lot of energy here, and that is why I love to compete with the Brazilian skaters." Sergio Fortunato de finished with a bronze, giving the host country two of the three spots on the medal podium.

Stunt Bike Competition in 2003
Last year, the Bicycle Park finals saw one of the best bike finals at an X Games competition ever. USA, Spain, Argentina and Colombia took to the course in the finals and Bruce Crisman of the USA rode away with the title. Tom Haugen and Mike Parenti rounded out the podium with their silver and bronze performances. The Latin X Games II Bicycle Stunt Vert final was one of the most exciting competitions of the event. After completing one run for each of the 10 finalists, inclement weather forced organizers to postpone the rest of the finals to the following day. In the end, Chad Kagy outscored Kevin Robinson for the gold medal after they were tied for first as USA's Dennis McCoy and Brazil's Clayton Marcos Araujo, followed closely behind.
