LOWE AND DA SILVA CLAIM TOP IN-LINE SKATE HONORS
International line-up reigns at Park during Men’s and Women’s Final
LOS ANGELES A host of European competitors stormed past two-time
defending champion American
Jaren Grob to claim all three medals
in the Aggressive In-Line Skate Park Men’s Final. Representing
Brazil, six-time X Games gold medallist
Fabiola da Silva snagged
the gold in the Aggressive In-Line Skate Park Women’s Final for
the first time since X Games VI in 2000.
German contender
Bruno Lowe took control of the contest on his
second run to post an impressive 90.25, finishing just ahead of
silver medallist
Stephane Alfano (87.75), and well beyond two-time
defending Aggressive In-Line Skate Park gold medallist
Jaren Grob
(72.75), who finished 12th.
"In-Line Skate is not very popular in Europe," said Lowe, who
won his first X Games gold after coming in second place at X Games
VIII in 2002, "I hope today can help change that."
"It’s cool to have Europeans in the top three positions," said
Bronze medallist
Sven Boekhorst, a native of the Netherlands,
echoing Lowe’s sentiment on a day when the highest-ranking American
in the men’s contest was fifth ranked Ben Weis (83.00). The speedy
seventeen-year-old
Stephane Alfano, of France, captured the Aggressive
In-Line Skate Park Men’s silver, nailing a breathtaking Corkscrew
900 to solidify his place among the medal-winners.
After a disappointing first run,
Fabiola da Silva went all out on
her second run (60.50), immediately landing a 540 into a flawless
forward 360, lacing up her run with an Alley-oop Soul.
Jenny Logue,
a native of Great Britain, finished a close second with a score of
59.75.
Martina Svobodova, who won gold at X Games VIII, nabbed the
bronze medal with a score of 58.00.
"My first run was okay, but my second run I gave everything,"
said da Silva after being awarded the gold, "My Dad is not here today,
but he is up there watching me and I am glad for that."
