Stunt Bike Park Wrap-Up Report
2004 X Games in Los Angeles

Wrap-up report from ESPN on the Stunt Bike Park competition at the 2004 X Games in Southern California. Los Angeles, Caliornia.

ANOTHER MIRRA-CLE: WORST TO FIRST
Is Two-for-Two After Stunning the Field in Bike Stunt Park

Los Angeles, California - The legend of Dave Mirra continues to grow.

On Friday night at X Games X, Mirra (Greenville, North Carolina USA) bypassed Tony Hawk to become the most decorated athlete in X Games history with his win in Bike Stunt Vert. Less than 16 hours later Mirra began the process of putting a little breathing room between himself and the aforementioned Mr. Hawk. Because you never know.

Mirra was sitting in dead-last in Saturday's Park competition entering his final run of the day. So he did what any legend would have done - he went out and restored order. And when that order was restored with a Double Tailwhip and a Backflip Throw-up Hand so was the overall order of the competition itself.

The score of 94.00 increased Mirra's X Games medal total 18, including 13 golds. "It feels crazy to win gold here after my (poor) first run," he said. "My money was on Ryan (Nyquist). I was just focusing on making the top five and ended up having an amazingly lucky run."

Ryan Nyquist (Greenville, North Carolina USA) did have his shot as the last rider of the day, but he broke his bike while attempting an Opposite 720. Nyquist used Mirra's bike to finish the run, but was unable to land the big trick.

"My bikes kept breaking," said Nyquist, whose silver-medal win improved his career total to 11. "I kept trying and trying but the back tire went flat. So I grabbed Dave's bike but going into the trick I knew I had to bail."

Ryan Guettler (Beenleigh, Australia) won bronze for the second straight year with a score of 92.00. "It was great to come out and compete and be on the podium with these guys," said Guettler.

Celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, X Games X is the world's premier action sports competition featuring more than 150 of the world's best athletes competing in: Aggressive In-line Skate, Bike Stunt, Moto X, Skateboard, Surfing and Wakeboard. The event is being held August 5-8, 2004 in Los Angeles with live primetime daily coverage on ESPN and ABC Sports.
