Wakeboard Women Report
2004 X Games in Los Angeles

Report from ESPN on the Women's Wakeboard competition at the 2004 X Games which took place at Long Beach Marine Stadium in the city of Long Beach, Southern California on August 7, 2004.

IT'S FRIDAY ON SATURDAY AT X GAMES X
Dallas Friday Making Her Opponents Dread the Weekend

Los Angeles, California - For some of the top Women's wakeboarders in the world T.G.I.F. just doesn't have the same meaning anymore. Ever since Dallas Friday (Orlando, Florida USA) arrived on the scene five years ago getting to the top of the podium almost has become an exercise in futility.

The 17-year-old did it again Saturday at X Games X with a score of 74.05 (almost 17 points better than her closest competitor) en route to her third gold in five years after a run that included a Scarecrow Mobe for the first time in a women's contest and a huge frontside roll. She finished second in her X Games debut in 2000 and as well as 2002.

"I'm just so happy right now," said Friday, who recently won an ESPY Award for Best Female Action Sports Athlete. "It still hasn't even really sunk in. I was so focused on riding when I was out there."

Tara Hamilton (Lantana, Florida USA) edged out Maeghan Major for second for her fifth career X Games medal with a Scarecrow and a Tantrum to Fakie. "It was really good," remarked Hamilton. "I was really happy for all of the girls. I feel we finally put on a good show."

Major walked away with her second career bronze and third medal overall with a smooth, technical run. "I was really happy to be here and medal because I struggled last year," said Major. "This is probably the best women's wakeboarding I have ever seen. This will help wakeboarding for the future."

Many on hand agreed, including Men's Wakeboarding silver medalist Chad Sharpe. "The women just killed it today," Sharpe said.

Celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, X Games X is the world's premier action sports competition featuring more than 150 of the world's best athletes competing in: Aggressive In-line Skate, Bike Stunt, Moto X, Skateboard, Surfing and Wakeboard. The event is being held August 5-8, 2004 in Los Angeles with live primetime daily coverage on ESPN and ABC Sports. SportsCenter, ESPN's flagship daily news program, will also report LIVE from X Games X from August 5-7 for the first time in X Games history.
