2005 Asian X Games Will Be In Seoul Korea

On February 1, 2005 ESPN announced that the Asian X Games would take place in Seoul, Korea May 26-29, 2005. This is the first time any X Games competitin has been held in South Korea.

February 1 2005, Seoul Korea: The X Games, the world’s signature action sports competition, will make its South Korean debut, as the City of Seoul will host Asian X Games 2005, presented by Kia, May 26-29. Asian X Games 2005, presented by Kia, will gather more than 250 of Asia’s leading actions sports athletes to compete for more than US$110,000 in prize money, medals, and bragging rights as the best in all of Asia.

Sports to Be Included
A list of the sports and disciplines to be included in the May 2005 Asian X Games in Seoul Korea.

The purpose of this event is to qualify Asian skaters for the Summer X Games, but international skaters are invited and encouraged to participate in the park and vert competitions for inline skating, skateboarding, and BMX stunt bike.

Admission to the event is free.

Sponsor and City of Seoul Support
The event, the seventh X Games competition to be held in Asia since 1998, marks the debut of Kia Motors as a presenting sponsor for the Asian X Games. Asian X Games 2005, presented by Kia also enjoys high-level sponsorship and organizational support from host city Seoul. Additional support comes from the Korea National Tourism Organization and local broadcasters MBC-ESPN and MBC. The event is promoted and organized in Asia by ESPN Inc. and ESPN STAR Sports.

"The X Games are a worldwide phenomenon," said Russell Wolff, managing director of ESPN International. "Fans in Asia have been particularly supportive of the X Games, as we have staged events there since 1998. Taking the Asian X Games to Seoul with Kia as a new presenting sponsor is a great step in the development of the franchise."

TV Coverage
Local South Korean broadcasters MBC-ESPN and MBC will be airing a selection of the best action from the event on both live and delayed basis.

Background on the Asian X Games
The Asian X Games is the most prestigious multi-event competition for action sports in Asia. Between 1998 and 2001 the event took place on Phuket Island, Thailand. From 2002 to 2004, the capital city of Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur played host, while Seoul is set to host the 2005 edition.
