ESPN Announces 2005 Summer X Games
LA is Host City - Inline Skating Dropped

In March of 2005 ESPN announced that the Summer X Games would remain in Los Angeles for another year and that inline skating has been dropped from the competition.

X GAMES 11 SET FOR AUGUST 4-7, 2005 IN LOS ANGELES

ESPN announced on March 17, 2005 that the 11th annual X Games will be held in and around Los Angeles for a third consecutive year. Primary venues include AEG owned and operated Home Depot Center in Carson and STAPLES Center in downtown Los Angeles, as well as Long Beach Marine Stadium. The event is scheduled for August 4-7, 2005.

The 2005 X Games will include 150 top athletes competing in the following sports:

  1. Bike Stunt
  2. Moto X (motorcycle stunt)
  3. Skateboard
  4. Surfing
  5. Wakeboard
IMPORTANT NOTE: Inline skating has been dropped from the X Games in 2005, although there will probably be an inline vert demonstration event featuring few of the top skaters.

The 2005 X Games will be telecast live on ESPN and ABC.

In 2005, more of the events will take place at the Home Depot Center and fewer will take place at Staples Center. For 2005, the Home Depot Center will host an increased number of X Games competitions, while other events will return to STAPLES wakeboard competition will continue to be held at Long Beach Marine Stadium. More information about venues, schedules, and ticket sales will be announced by ESPN at a later date.

The 2004 X Games, which aired completely live for the first time, delivered record average viewership, shattering X Games 2003's household average, which was the previous record, by 47% according to Nielsen Media Research. The event also reached record highs in several major demographic categories. On-site attendance over the four-day event totaled 170,471.
