Number of Riders Participating - 12 List of Athletes Invited by ESPN The motorcycle riders invited by ESPN to participate in the Moto X Best Trick Competition at the 2005 Winter X Games. What is Moto X? Moto X is a freestyle version of motocross. It has been part of the X Games since 1999 and the sport made its debut at the Winter X Games in 2000. The Moto X competition at X Games XIII in Philadelphia was revolutionary for the sport because two riders successfully landed a backflip. Moto X riders continue to push the envelope of their sport and electrify spectators with their daredevil feats. Moto X at the 2005 Winter X Games Winter X Games Nine will feature Moto X Best Trick, a discipline that allows athletes to go big with one trick and awe the audience and the judges. In the preliminaries, each of 12 athletes will chose to jump a 90-foot gap, a 75 foot gap, or a 45 foot gap. They will take two jumps and be judged on style, creativity, and trick performance. the highest score of the two jumps will stand as the athlete's final score. The top six riders qualify for the finals. In the final, each rider takes another two jumps. The top jump wins gold. The on-snow event is the only competition of its kind of freestyle motocross.
