History of Inline Skating at the X Games

How the X Games Inline Skating competition has evolved over the years since the very first X Games in 1995.

Year 1: 1995 X Games Aggressive Inline
The 1995 X Games inline skating competition included street, vert men, vert women, big air, and best trick events.

Year 2: 1996 X Games Aggressive Inline
The 1996 X Games inline skating competition included street, vert men, vert women,and best trick events. The big air competition was dropped in 1996.

Year 3: 1997 X Games Aggressive + Downhill
The 1997 X Games inline skating competition included street men, street women, vert men, and vert women events. Downhill inline skating and the women's street competitions were added in 1997 and the best trick competition was dropped.

Year 4: 1998 X Games Aggressive + Downhill
The 1998 X Games inline skating competition included downhill men, downhill women, street men, street women, vert men, and vert triples events. A vert triples event was added in 1998 and the women's vert competition was dropped.

Year 5: 1999 X Games Aggressive Inline
The 1999 X Games inline skating competition included street men, street women, vert women,and vert triples events. Downhill inline skating was dropped in 1999 and the vert women's competition was brought back after being dropped in 1998.

Year 6: 2000 X Games Aggressive Inline
The 2000 X Games inline skating competition included park men, park women, vert men, and vert women events. In 2000 the X games changed the name of the "street" competition to the "park" and they also dropped the vert triples competition.

Year 7: 2001 X Games Aggressive Inline
The 2001 X Games inline skating competition included park men, park women, vert men, and vert women events. No changes were made in 2001 to the line-up of inline skating disciplines.

Year 8: 2002 X Games Aggressive Inline
The 2002 X Games inline skating competition included park men, park women, and a vert competition that was men and women combined. The women-only vert competition was dropped in 2002.

Year 9: 2003 X Games Aggressive Inline
The 2003 X Games inline skating competition included park men, park women, and a combined men and women vert competition, the same inline skating line-up of events as in 2002.

Year 10: 2004 X Games Aggressive Inline
In 2004 the inline skating competition was reduced to vert only, and only 9 or 10 inline skaters were invited to participate.

  • Vert Triples - 1998 and 1999
  • Downhill Men - 1997 and 1998
  • Downhill Women - 1997 and 1998
  • Best Trick - 1995 and 1996
  • Big Air - 1995 only
