On January 11, 2003 (Anni's 26th birthday) I posted the following letter in her Web site guest book. If you would like to send a special message to Anni you can do it by making an entry in the Anni Friesinger Guest Book at Anni-Friesinger.de. Enter your name, email address (optional), and the text of your message. Select "eintragen" to post your message or "loschen" to clear your message. Here is what I wrote: January 11, 2003 Happy Birthday Anni from California! I traveled from Los Angeles to Heerenveen last weekend, to watch the European Ice Speed Skating Championships, and since I usually write articles about skating on wheels, this was my first big ice speed skating event (I decided to attend my first ice event in a country where they REALLY appreciate speed skating and skaters... I sure did pick the right place - speed skaters are like rock stars in NL!) I was absolutely thrilled to be there in person to watch you skate, and even more excited on Saturday when you allowed me to take a photo and gave me one of your autographed cards (maybe you remember... I was accompanied by photographer Ewoud Broeksma). Now I have seen for myself that not only are you a beautiful and incredibly talented skater, but also a lovely and gracious person who appreciates her fans and is kind to them. Speed skating is getting very popular in the United States (since the 2002 Olympics) so I will be writing many articles about your sport in the future.
